An experienced telemarketer will always know what they’re going to say before making a call. Telemarketing is a game of numbers. It is up to you to find the people who will truly benefit from the product or service you are offering. An experienced operator is able to tell within the first few seconds of a conversation whether the person on the other end of the phone is a legitimate candidate.

If someone sounds rude or frustrated, you’re wasting your time and theirs by trying to convince them to stay on the line. Politely finish the call so you can move on and find a customer who is excited by what you have to offer.

Make sure you’re speaking to the right person

You might make a call to someone who is genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say. However, if they are a student with no income or not the household decision maker you will find yourself striking out. Find out early if the person on the line has the authority and the budget to make a purchase.

Keep going and keep learning

The people who are in need of the product or service you are selling will actually be glad you called. It’s your job to be persistent enough to find those people.

Set yourself a goal for the day and don’t give up or become discouraged. Listen to the feedback you receive as you go. Learn from it, tailor your sales pitch and you’ll start making those all-important conversions.
